Should New York Secede? Posted by condour at 03:04 AM October 31, 2004

This article from over the GOP infested summer says maybe.

What is conservatism?

Now THAT is a funny guy. Posted by condour at 01:04 AM October 28, 2004

Bush giving the middle finger in his gubernatorial career. And before the haters start sending in poorly spelled comments, of COURSE there's nothing wrong with the occasional one finger salute, as he puts it. But he just looks like such an asshole. It's really priceless.

logo_iae.gifBrazil is now officially plastic-fantastic, having made it into space. Now as soon as robot cocktail waitresses are invented, the future will be shaping up pretty nice, as long as you're not in the US or one of her many enemies. [Fun fact: orbital velocity is easier to achieve at the equator. Work it into a double-entendre.] In honor of the event, here's Eumir Deodato's cover of Also Sprach Zarathustra.

And speaking of Deodato: I'd be remiss not to mention that he produced my favorite nightclub act's new album. Swanky!

Eat up, Martha. Posted by condour at 05:16 AM October 21, 2004

Martha, you have earned my grudging respect. Making jelly in jail from crabapples is almost zen. Doing it when it's probably going to get you in trouble with the screws? It's a good thing. Show 'em how they do things in Nutley, kiddo.

Got some cardboard and duct tape? Voice your political opinions where 10,000 commuters can see it. These guys will show you how. Although it doesn't take a genius to figure it out on your own.

Sinclair bleeds. That means we can kill it. Posted by condour at 03:47 AM

The Sinclair boycott sent their stock down 18 points or so in the last two weeks. And they've posted a retraction, first claiming they didn't ever intend to air the smear piece.

BUT. They're still showing the most inflammatory excerpts of it on a friday night slot. So, keep up the pressure to advertisers. This thing is working. Don't stop now.

The Last Starfighter: The Musical Posted by condour at 04:46 PM October 19, 2004

starfighter.jpgNow, on first blush it may seem like a mistake to make a space adventure into a musical, showing at the Storm Theater this month. But consider:

  1. Idealistic young man in a provincial setting rises to meet the objections and doubts of his elders and peers. Like Flashdance, but with giant lizards, and something called "Death Blossom."
  2. Subplot about robot trying understand human love. Complete with mistaken identity.
  3. Musical number about Zanduzans, an interstellar hit-beast.
  4. Robert Preston.
But what worries me is that judging by my VHS collection, Neverending Story: The Musical can't be far off.

The best cartoon actor award goes to... Posted by condour at 03:50 PM October 18, 2004

creep.jpgThis flash video for Radiohead's "Creep" has some of the best cartoon emoting I've seen in a while. And the rest of the animation is pretty damned good too. (also I like the way they use flash keyframes as their little intro page) More of their stuff can be found at lowmorale.co.uk.

More on the beauty of smoking in movies. (originally discussed here) This one's basically a fetish site for those attracted to smoking women, but in their critiques and categories, they open the door for a poetics of smoking. There are names for various inhalations and exhalations.

Sinclair Advertisers Pulling Out Posted by condour at 12:12 AM

Dkospedia is reporting a number of pullouts from Sinclair's anti-Kerry stunt. Keep up the good work! But Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus refuses to pull out. I guess they just love a good humbug.

Who's that novelist voting for? Posted by condour at 07:51 PM October 12, 2004

Republicans like to rant about the dangers of entertainers entering politics. And considering how awful Reagan was, maybe they have a point. But it's harder to dismiss novelists, who actually have to do some thinking from time to time. Who they're voting for and why.

Boycotting Sinclair Posted by condour at 11:50 PM October 11, 2004

As those of you who read the rest of the "Internets" know, Conservative Media conglomerate Sinclair Broadcasting Group will be airing an anti-Kerry movie called Stollen Honor in swing states. A copy of the story is Here.

Daily Kos has this list of advertisers to boycott.

What Gary Says Posted by condour at 03:43 PM October 07, 2004

ferrets.gifAmazing what you can do with a little creative audio editing and some flash. I dunno if it's the adorable ferrets, the crayons, the use of the word "fracas," or the plot (a meeting between Bush and Gary Busey in a pastoral setting), but Leave it to Bush is hilarious.

What Barry Says Posted by condour at 03:19 PM

It's a bit heavy-handed and doesn't actually go into detail on the actual machinations of the PNAC, but this video is unmistakably gorgeous. The music is phenomenal, too.

Cheney lied about having not met Edwards Posted by condour at 02:53 PM October 06, 2004

In fact, he addressed him in a speech. CNN had this too, but Escaton put the picture up for our convenience.

Another highlight reel of last week's presidential debate. This time, to hiphop. And a little more effective than the 5 minute summary found here.(which basically condenses all of bush's blunders, saying little positive about Kerry). Meanwhile, Harry Shearer has a theory on how Kerry was trained by his "handlers." [realmedia, sorry]
