Who's that novelist voting for?

Republicans like to rant about the dangers of entertainers entering politics. And considering how awful Reagan was, maybe they have a point. But it's harder to dismiss novelists, who actually have to do some thinking from time to time. Who they're voting for and why.

I don't think that it is any harder to dismiss the opinions of novelists than anyone else. The ability to construct a fine sentence and to express yourself in words is not enough to suggest that you know any more than any one else.

On it's own it simply means that you have talent for writing and nothing more.

Great bumper sticker! Bush Cheney 2004: Because the ability to construct a fine sentence and to express yourself in words is not enough to suggest that you know any more than any one else.

I like your blog by the way -- I'm a huge Groucho fan too.

I think Jack is right in that a classic "appeal to authority" type argument doesnt really go to prove a point. Anyway I would expect most Writers and Artists to vote for Kerry just like most Engineers and Scientists will vote for Bush. Its a demographic thing.

True enough, but just to make a small correction, demographically, scientists are much more likely to support a liberal candidate. As are most teachers and academics. Engineers, as you suggest, are more likely conservative.
