As a son of the south who migrated from Texas to Minnesota upon the election of the Shrub as Governor I was furious at the result of the 2000 election. My family fought both sides of the Civil War and I fear that as a nation we are not too far from seeing this again with the division left in the wake of the 2004 election. The pivotal point in this election is that the evangelical christian electorate understands that being "political" goes beyond turning out to vote. It is about PARTICIPATING. Just as devout evangelicals go to church more than once per week on average, "liberal" political "activists" who believe in affecting change should be participating ACTIVELY (more than once every 4 years). We get out of the system what we put IN! Religous fundamentalism is the greatest danger to representative democracy. Whether it is Islam, Judaism, Christianity or any other faith. Our country was founded on the principles of religous freedom and the secular state; the division of church and state. We will face the greatest challenge since the inception of our union upon our rights as individuals in the next four years and if we do not protest loudly and often the potential exists that judicial appointments could distort our democracy for generations. Do not forget that the American Revolution from Brittain was based upon taxation without representation. Are your intersets being represented by your tax dollars? Who is paying to represent the interests of our current administration?

Oh, and for your information, the Civil War was to stop the south from suceding.. not really over slavery. Slavery was a second issue. Not the first. Hell, even Robert E. Lee didn't own slaves, and he was a master general. When the Civil War was over, Lincoln addressed the nation, and told the band to play "Dixie". The country was once again united. Now you libs wanna fuck it all up, and shit on our great history. Move to France, Germany, Canada, Cuba if you think like that.

No one expects the Kuntry to secede, the point is that the rest of us are ready to secede from the Kuntry. The point, I think was to show how we have come full circle in terms of political leaning in the past 150 years. Those who do not learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them, or some such nonsense.

Ummm... actually, the civil war was fought over "states rights." The South though they had the "right" to own other humans. The North did not. So, yes, the civil war WAS about slavery even though the South always likes to couch it in other terms. Oooo, Bobby Lee didn't have slaves? Maybe that is because he was a GENERAL. Who needs slaves when you have a whole army of privates to shine your boots.

And why do the libs have to move to Canada? Why don't you move to Iran. I am sure you would enjoy a religious leader making all of your decisions for you. I like it here in the US where there is a separation of church and state and my priest is a spiritual advisor, not my congressman.
