That doesn't make any sense. Not the bit about having escaladors to a fitness center; the part about the escaladors being in the outdoors. Rain. Leaves. Those escaladors wouldn't last long. The picture is funny and ironic, but I doubt this picture didn't have some drastic changes made in a photo editor.
It's real, and in San Diego, where rain and leaves are seldom a problem. They *do* make weather resistant escalators.

And yeah, many of the escalators to the Metro stations in DC are partially exposed to the elements and it's hardly San Diego weather in winter there.
We have outdoor escalators in Denver, too. Unfortunately, the 24Hour Fitness centers here don't have them. I'm a member, too...
